Ranbir Kapoor has been all over the news after he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged online betting case. However, a new report suggests that the actor has not been summoned as an accused.
A report in News18 stated that Ranbir has been summoned for questioning not as an accused, but to understand his knowledge of the source of money he received to promote the betting app.The ED has asked the ‘Animal‘ star to appear at the agency’s office in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on October 6. Around 14-15 other celebrities and actors are under the ED’s scanner in the case and they will also be reportedly summoned soon.
The report also added that while Ranbir might not be part of the conspiracy, it is very important to understand the scam.Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal‘s company was reportedly based in Dubai. It is alleged that they were utilizing an online sports betting application to recruit new users, generate user IDs, and engage in money laundering through a complex network of anonymous bank accounts.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously informed the news portal that a total of 17 Bollywood celebrities, including Shraddha Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha, and more, are being investigated for their involvement in Chandrakar’s wedding in February this year and the company’s success party in September last year, either as attendees or performers.

The Mahadev betting apps offer a variety of games, lotteries, and betting opportunities covering a wide range of topics, including election result predictions, weather forecasts, and sports matches. These apps have been in operation for the past four years. Similar to other Ponzi schemes, these online apps specifically targeted individuals from lower-income groups. The games, lotteries, and betting options were all designed to be unfair, ensuring that the “players” consistently lost money while the company profited.
Chandrakar, whose company is purported to have acquired approximately Rs 5,000 crore through the fraudulent scheme, began his career as a juice vendor in Chhattisgarh. Details about his educational background remain undisclosed. A raid conducted at the home of Vinod Verma, the political advisor to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, revealed Chandrakar’s suspected links with the betting company.
