Rare 1970s Ford Falcon XY kept under Brisbane home for 50 years set to go to auction

Under a 110-year-old Queenslander, down a set of vine weed-infested stairs, perhaps isn’t where one would expect something to have massively appreciated in value.

But that will be the case of Clive Anderson’s “one-of-one” Ford Falcon.

Anderson has lived in the Coorparoo home in Brisbane’s east since 1960. Before that, his grandfather owned it, having built it in 1912.

Now that he’s sold it, the dust-covered XY Falcon had to go. It’s the first time it has moved in 50 years.

Anderson bought the car in 1972 for about $3800. It was his “drive car”.

“It’s just what we all drove, back in those days,” he told 7NEWS.

He parked it under the house when he was given a work car a few years later.

After years of inactivity, the car eventually stopped working.

So there it stayed — until Friday, when a front end loader was called in to drag it out.

With the job successfully completed, the car will go to auction.

With its logbook intact, it’s expected to fetch a pretty penny. The car was a “special build” initially owned by the Ford Motor Company, according to auctioneer Grays Australia’s Rian Gaffey.

“It’s one of one. It was a Ford Motor Company car,” he said.

“The good part about this car is it’s only done 60,000 miles (96,500km) and we know the history from brand new.”

So how much is it worth? That won’t be known until the auction.

But similar finds, including a 1973 Ford Falcon XA GT RPO 83 found in a barn in Gympie in 2020, sold for more than $300,900.

“Being an XY and sitting for so long, who knows? It’s what someone’s prepared to pay,” Gaffey said.

“It’s going to go very, very well. They’re very, very rare.

“They’re getting rarer and rarer.”
