Catherine, Princess of Wales, was known as a bit of a party animal in her early days of dating Prince William, but perhaps not so much these days, with three young children to look after.

However, the now-41-year-old reportedly spent part of last weekend secretly raving away at an “upper class musical festival” after being persuaded to go by friends during a dinner party.

Kate attended the ultra-posh Houghton Festival on the Norfolk estate of her friend Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, according to the Daily Mail.

The Princess was having dinner with Rose and her husband, David, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, at their lavish home, Houghton Hall, when the couple mentioned that the Houghton Festival was underway on their 1000-acre estate.

“After dinner, one of the guests suggested that Catherine go to the festival,” a source told The Daily Mail.

“Catherine was nervous about the idea, but after much discussion with her protection officers, she went with lots of security.

“William wasn’t there.”

The Houghton Festival, first launched in 2017 by DJ Craig Richards, stretched across three days, with more than 200 artists performing across 13 stages.

Catherine and William are both good friends of the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, who live close to Anmer Hall, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Norfolk retreat.

David, The Marquess of Cholmondeley, was Queen Elizabeth’s former Lord Great Chamberlain, but was stood down from the role after her death, as tradition dictates that the role should be passed on to a member of a different aristocratic family after the death of a monarch.

However, King Charles gave David a new position as his Lord-In-Waiting, which means he can still attend important state and royal occasions.

The 63-year-old is a former filmmaker and his wife Rose, a former model.

They have three children – twin boys Alexander and Oliver and daughter Iris.

And if it sounds odd that Catherine might be partying at a music festival at the behest of a 63-year-old Marquess, his wife Rose is 23 years his junior – making her more on a par with Kate’s age.
