Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans may have led the first decade of the MCU with their own solo movie trilogies and epic endings for Iron Man and Captain America in Avengers Endgame.

However, Chris Hemsworth is still going, becoming the first star of the franchise to have a fourth solo outing with 2022’s Thor Love and Thunder.

Yet his second Marvel team-up with director Taika Waititi wasn’t as well received as Thor Ragnarok and it’s clearly got to the Aussie star.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, the 40-year-old confessed he thinks he owes fans Thor 5 after not being able to forgive himself for Love and Thunder.

He said: “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.” Yet his frustrations with his character go much further back.

On playing Thor in Avengers movie, Hemsworth said: “Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing?

“It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.”

Nevertheless, his Iron Man co-star wouldn’t stand for this and hit back at his self-deprecation.

Downey Jr said: “First off, Thor as a character was super tricky to adapt—lots of implied limitations—but he and Ken Branagh figured out how to transcend, make him somehow relatable but godlike. Hemsworth is, in my opinion, the most complex psyche out of all us Avengers. He’s got wit and gravitas, but also such restraint, fire, and gentleness.”

The Tony Stark star concluded by referring to Hemsworth’s performances in Thor Ragnarok, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame as “a formidable hat trick.”

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, “Thor 5 is in development at Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, there is a good chance Taika Waititi will return to direct but it is NOT a done deal.”
