RTC to operate transit on Saturday schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. holiday

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will operate its transit service on a Saturday schedule on Monday, Jan. 15, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Additionally, road closures in place for the annual MLK Day parade will result in transit detours in Downtown Las Vegas from approximately 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The annual parade begins at 10 a.m., at Fourth Street and Gass Avenue in Downtown Las Vegas and continues down Fourth Street, concluding at Ogden Avenue.

As a result, RTC said road closures will include Fourth Street from Charleston Boulevard to Stewart Avenue, Third Street from Garces Avenue to Coolidge Avenue, and all side streets.

The RTC will participate in this year’s parade as the community recognizes the accomplishments of the civil rights icon and celebrates this year’s theme, “Living the Dream – Together We Make the Dream Work.”

During the parade, the RTC will showcase its e-bikes and two of the newest additions to its transit fleet, the hydrogen fuel cell electric bus, and the battery electric bus, both of which are an important step in helping the RTC achieve its goal of becoming a zero-emission fleet by 2050.

Riders can plan their transit trip using the free rideRTC app and pay their fare in a number of convenient ways, including the rideRTC app and the new ability to pay for a single ride fare with a debit/credit card, mobile wallet, or smartwatch.
