Ryan Gravenberch is confident the mentality within the dressing room will enable Liverpool to overcome the challenges posed by a lengthy injury list.
Alisson Becker, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota are the latest players to suffer from fitness issues, with Jürgen Klopp confirming on Tuesday the trio all face spells on the sidelines.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai, along with Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip, will also miss Wednesday’s clash with Luton Town but Gravenberch believes the character within Klopp’s squad will ensure their season remains on track.
“I think we always stick together as a team. We give everything and I think the most important thing is that we always are sticking together,” the midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I think this season we got a lot against us and I think we overcame everything, so hopefully we will do it with this situation as well.”
Gravenberch impressed after being called upon to replace the injured Jones during the first half of last Saturday’s 4-1 win at Brentford and he is determined to seize any further opportunities that come his way during a busy fixture schedule.
He said: “I’m feeling good. If I am honest, I’m really looking forward to the game on Wednesday, especially after the game on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to it.
“You see it now, unfortunately Curtis is now injured and hopefully he will be back as soon as possible. But now, for me, I have the chance again to show myself and to show my qualities.
“If I’m honest, as a player I prefer to play games than training! So, I’m very happy that we have every three or four days a game. Of course it’s hard but I think as a player you prefer to play games so it’s better.”
The 21-year-old was part of the Liverpool team that needed a stoppage-time equaliser by Luis Diaz to avoid defeat against Luton in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road back in November and he is anticipating another tough contest this time around.
“They played compact then, they played very deep then [but] if I am honest they have a good team. They played also at home so it was also different than now,” Gravenberch stated.
“They have good players, so we have to prepare for that and then I think we will have a good chance to beat them. For sure [it will be another tough game], but now we have Anfield behind us so this is different.”
