The 95 homes are being built using funds from the SA government’s $232.7 million Public Housing Improvement Program, which will deliver a total of 437 homes in SA.

The two-bedroom homes are under construction in Blair Athol, 8km from Adelaide CBD, along with 70 public housing rental homes.

Human Services Minister Nat Cook said the “affordable” homes will be sold under the median house price of $680,000 for Blair Athol.

“The public home builds, combined with the government-backed affordable homes, is rejuvenating this wonderful suburb, close to parks, facilities, and schools, which is ideal for families,” she said.

“Rebuilding stocks and boosting supply takes time, but we have made a positive start and halted a generational trend would have seen public housing supply continue to decline.”

The SA government plans to deliver about 3,600 new homes over five years and reduce the cost of housing for about 14,000 more new homes with a suite of measures.

This includes scrapping stamp duty as part of the 2023-2024 state budget for new homes under $650,000 or vacant land valued under $400,000.
