Despite the shocking health news, Sarah Ferguson is said to be in “good spirits” after the operation, with the news confirmed by The Mirror in the UK.

“Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous,” a spokesperson said.

“She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages. Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing but the Duchess remains in good spirits.

“The Duchess wants to thank the entire medical team which has supported her, particularly her dermatologist whose vigilance ensured the illness was detected when it was. She believes her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, colour and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma.”

The royal announced her breast cancer diagnosis in June last year, shocking royal watchers.

The cancer was detected early during a routine mammogram screening and she quickly underwent surgery.

A representative confirmed the surgery was a success and the Duchess, who was married to Prince Andrew between 1986 and 1996, is receiving the best medical care.

“Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening,” the representative told The Sun.

“She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully.

“The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her the prognosis is good.

“She is now recuperating with her family.

“The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

“She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

Ferguson and Prince Andrew divorced in 1996 but continue to live together on the Windsor estate.

After the divorce, Ferguson maintained a strong friendship with the late Queen Elizabeth and even adopted the Queen’s corgis after her death in September 2022.

Ferguson was also famously a good friend of Princess Diana, being friends throughout their teenage years before they both married into the royal family.
