Season Comes To An End In CAA Semifinals For Pride

Stony Brook, NY – Kristen Redding had four points on three goals and an assist to put the finishing touches on a solid rookie campaign, but the Hofstra women’s lacrosse team dropped an 18-9 decision to Drexel in the CAA semifinals at LaValle Stadium on Thursday afternoon. 

The hat trick was the third of the season for Redding. 

Hofstra sees its season end with a record of 9-8, a five-win improvement from 2023. Drexel moves on to the CAA Championship Game with a record of 13-4. The Dragons will face Stony Brook on Saturday.

Drexel scored the game’s first three goals before Nikki Mennella got the Pride on the scoreboard at the 10:57 mark of the first quarter. The Dragons would tack on an 8-0 scoring run to break open the contest and led 11-1 early in the second quarter. The Pride would tally the final two goals of the half to close the gap to eight. 

Redding notched a pair of third quarter goals to continue her strong day before the Pride got a trio of goals in the fourth quarter to account for the final score. 

Lauren Coletti had two goals in the contest, her fifth multi-goal game of the season. Taylor Mennella had a goal and an assist in her final game in a Pride uniform, as did Melissa Sconone. Kerry Walser finished with three points on a goal and two assists in her final contest. 

Christine Dannenfelser led Hofstra with three ground balls and Trinity Reed posted a team-high six draw controls. 

Casey Phelps came off the bench and posted a career-high four saves for the Pride. 

Corrine Bednarik had 11 points on three goals and eight assists for Drexel, which also got three goals from Molly Weygand and Allison Drake. Jenika Cuocco tallied 13 saves for the Dragons.

NOTES

– Reed led Hofstra in draw controls for the fourth time this season. 

– Dannenfelser led the Pride in ground balls for a team-high fifth time this season. 

– Redding was Hofstra’s top goal scorer for the second time this year.

– Hofstra is now 28-15 all-time against Drexel.
