Seat Belt Issue Prompts Tesla to Recall Model S and Model X Vehicles

Tesla is recalling around 16,000 of its 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles due to improper reconnection of the front-row seat belts after repairs.

In its safety recall report, Tesla stated that during repairs, a first-row seat belt was disconnected from its pretensioner anchor, but it may not have been properly reconnected after the repair was completed.

If the seat belt is not reconnected correctly, it may not function as intended during a collision, increasing the risk of injury.

In March, U.S. highway safety regulators initiated an investigation into potential seat belt issues with Tesla vehicles.

Tesla has reported 12 warranty claims related to this issue as of June 19, but there have been no reported accidents, injuries, or fatalities associated with the seat belt problem.

Notification letters will be sent to affected owners, and Tesla will conduct free inspections and reconnect the first-row seat belts to their pretensioner anchors as necessary. If proper reconnection is not possible, the seat belt assembly will be replaced free of charge.

In addition, Tesla is recalling over 1,300 of its 2023 Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles due to a camera issue.

According to the recall report, some vehicles have misaligned forward-facing cameras, which can result in certain active safety features, such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane keeping assist, being unavailable without notifying the driver.

Relying on these unavailable features may increase the risk of a collision, according to the company.

Customers affected by the camera-related recall can take their vehicles to Tesla for a free inspection and adjustment of the camera angle, if necessary.
