Sonet: Kia Sonet facelift vs Hyundai Venue: Price, variants, features, specifications compared

Kia India unveiled the new and updated Kia Sonet in the Indian market. The new Sonet features an updated design, additional features, improved dynamics, updated gearbox options and much more. The new Kia Sonet continues to compete with the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra XUV 300 and Tata Nexon.In this article, let’s compare the new Kia Sonet with the Hyundai Venue.

The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet come under the sub-compact SUV segment and both SUVs are based on the same platform and get identical powertrain options. First, let’s take a look at the variants offered.
The new Sonet is offered in seven trims – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+ and X-line. The Venue is offered in E, S, S+, S(O), SX and SX (O). The price for the Hyudndai Venue facelift starts from Rs 7.89 lakh and goes up to 13.38 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom). Kia will announce the price of the new Sonet sometime in January 2024, meanwhile, the bookings for the SUV will begin from December 20th and the prices for the new Sonet are expected to start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comparing the dimensions, the new Sonet measures 3995mm in length, 1790mm in width and 1642mm in height, has 2500mm of wheelbase, 205mm of ground clearance and has a boot space of 392 litres. Talking about the Venue, it measures 3995mm in length, 1770mm in width and 1617mm in height, 2500mm of wheelbase, 1955mm of ground clearance and has a boot space of 305 litres.

In terms of features, both Venue and Sonet comes loaded with features. The new Sonet facelift gets twin 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and the other for the digital instrument cluster. It also gets ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, built-in air purifier, 70+ connected car features, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear sun shades, connected car tech, sunroof and much more. The Sonet facelift also gets six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), and 10 ADAS features. It also gets “Find My Kia” feature also offering a surround-view of the car via the smartphone app.

Talking about the features in Venue, it gets an 8-inch touchscreen system with in-built navigation, digital instrument cluster, 60 connected car features and over-the-air updates, Alexa and Google Voice Assistant, sunroof, reclining rear seat, an air purifier, dual USB C-slots, wireless phone charger, paddle shifters and four-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and much more. Safety features include six airbags, ESC, VSM and hill-assist control.

The Kia Sonet and Venue also gets Level-1 ADAS features such as forward collision warning (for car, pedestrian, and cycle), lane keep assist and departure warning, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, lane following assist, and leading vehicle lane departure alert.

As mentioned previously, the Venue and Sonet are based on the same platform and get identical powertrain options. The Venue and Sonet are offered with three engine options – a 1.2-litre NA Petrol engine which puts out 82 bhp of power and 115 Nm of peak torque. A 1.0-litre, 3-cyl turbo petrol engine which puts out 118 bhp of power and 172 Nm of peak torque and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel which puts out 114 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Talking about the gearbox options, the Venue is offered with a 5-speed manual, iMT, 7-speed DCT and the 6-speed manual. The Sonet too is offered with the same gearbox options but additionally, the Sonet gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic for the diesel engine
