Stevie Doc thanks fellow Scots for support after winning dream theatre role on Mamma Mia: I Have A Dream

Dancing Queen Stevie Doc has thanked her fellow Scots for their support after winning the coveted role of Sophie in London’s West End.

The 22-year-old musical theatre teacher wowed the judged on STV’s Mamma Mia: I Have A Dream, which searched for the next Sophie and Sky to star in the hit musical based on Abba’s back catalogue.

Judged by Alan Carr, Jessie Ware, Samantha Barks and Amber Riley, the show has seen competitors sing, dance and act their way to Sunday’s live final.

The Glaswegian performer impressed the judges week upon week with powerful renditions of the likes of Shallow and All That Jazz, as well captivating acting skills which saw Stevie open up about a difficult period in her life.

After performing a scene with west end legend Mazz Murray, in which they were playing the mother/daughter roles in Mamma Mia, Stevie admitted she found it tough, having lost her own mother when she was just 13.

Following her win, Stevie told STV News that she is still coming to terms with the fact she’ll be performing in the West End.

“I feel like I need to process it a bit still,” she said. “I get through moments of being really excited and then two minutes later, it’s as if I’ve completely forgotten that it even happened.”

Addressing those who voted for her to win, she thanked her fellow Scots for their support.

“I just want to say a big thank you to everybody in Scotland because I feel like that’s a big part of why I got here. I wouldn’t be able to get here without the support of all my people from home. So, yeah, thank you so much.”

Stevie’s proud dad Gary Docherty said he was thrilled his daughter won the show, previously telling STV News that her late mum would have been “incredibly, incredibly proud”.

He added: “My heart was pounding, pounding through my chest. It’s unbelievable.”
