Bowie has been found by police safe and well.

The family said they returned from a ski trip on Wednesday to find Bowie missing, their car stolen and house trashed.

Father Luke Durman said food had been thrown around the house, baby photos were dumped in the toilet and golf clubs were broken.

“Once we realised Bowie was gone, the cars and everything was immaterial to that,” Durman said on Wednesday.

“The focus was, we just wanted Bowie back.”

The dog was found near Macksville on Friday, NSW police said.

Earlier, police were told the dog had been spotted in Utungun.

“A short time later, an officer attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a grey SUV on Taylors Arm Road, Congarinni,” police said in a statement.

“A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries at Macksville Police Station.”
