storm threat ends this afternoon as risk of flooding continues

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – TODAY: While the severe threat has diminished, the risk of flash flooding will continue as bouts of heavy rainfall spread overhead. Use extra caution traveling on the roadways and avoid flooded areas. Winds will remain pretty breezy throughout the day even behind the rain with gusts up to 20-30 MPH at times. Rain chances will taper off into tonight as the heavy rain and thunderstorms exit east. Temperatures will bottom out in the middle 50s overnight.

THURSDAY: We could see a few lingering showers Thursday morning, but the rest of the week should consist of dry conditions. Skies are expected to gradually become sunny with high temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Gusty winds are likely as well behind the system near or over 30 MPH.

EXTENDED FORECAST: A quieter weather pattern will take place into the weekend as temperatures trend upwards. Highs by this weekend will top out in the lower 80s with more sunshine around. Our next chance to see rain should hold off towards the end of next week.
