A recall alert has been issued for a popular Subaru model, over concerns that a manufacturing issue could result in an increased risk of a potentially fatal accident.
The recall has been prompted by an issue that could affect the car’s rearview camera and reverse lights.
Almost 3000 Subaru Outbacks made between 2021 and 2022 have been recalled, with all variants of the vehicle impacted.

The car’s transmission switch may not be sealed properly, which could in turn allow moisture to enter and the circuit board to corrode, according to the federal Department of Transport.
If this happens, the car’s reverse lights may not light up and/or the rearview camera may not show the image while the vehicle is reversing.
“If the reverse lamps and/or the rearview camera do not operate as intended, it may impact the safety of other traffic, or any persons located behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the department said.
Owners of affected vehicles can book their car in at any authorised Subaru Service Centre to have the defect fixed.
The repair will be done free of charge.
