During the interview, Joyce admitted that he watched the “wrong game” on Saturday night and totally missed the Australian team’s historic quarter final win against France in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“Well I went to the pub and watched them on the weekend, but I think we we’re watching the wrong game,” he said.

“I think they put on a repeat because it was on Channel 10, I don’t think it was the right one.

“But when we finished the game, Australia had won 1-0 in full time.”

The bizarre confession left Nat absolutely gobsmacked.

“What?!” she cried out.

Nat then added: “Barnaby – just to let you know, the Matildas won!”

Joyce admitted it was a while before he realised he’d missed the epic game.

“I know it was an incredible penalty shootout which we never [saw] – we went had dinner because we thought they’d won 1-0!” he said.

Unable to believe what she was hearing, Nat went back at Barnaby.

“Did you see there was a penalty shootout, nothing we’ve seen in men’s or women’s soccer? she asked. “There was no penalty shootout in the one you watched?”

Joyce shook his head, adding that the whole incident seemed suspicious.

“No, Australia just won 1-0, I think it was a previous game,” he said.

“Whatever was happening, I think it was pretty dodgy. I don’t think they’d paid for their vision or something. Such is life.”

At that point, Nat fired off some smart advice to the controversial MP.

“If you just keep it on Channel Seven, Barnaby, that’ll get it through!” she said.
