In the scene, Holland’s character, Danny Sullivan, dances with and has sex with a man in a club bathroom. His fans took to social media to support him and make it clear that they would not tolerate hateful remarks about the LGBTQ+ community. They reminded people that Holland is an actor and can take on any roles he wants, including queer ones. Many fans also pointed out that previous actors who played Spider-Man, such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, have portrayed gay characters as well.
Holland’s role in “The Crowded Room” has faced criticism overall, with the show receiving a low Rotten Tomatoes score. However, Holland defended the show and its message, stating that asking for help is an act of bravery that should be celebrated by society.
