Suzuki Motors Gujarat: Vibrant Gujarat summit: Suzuki Motors to invest Rs 3,200 cr in new production line & Rs 35,000 cr in 2nd plant

Kicking off the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motors announced its intent to invest Rs 3,200 crore in a new production line in the existing Gujarat plant and Rs 35,000 crore towards a second plant in the state.

Suzuki Motors’ President Toshihiro Suzuki said that the company will roll out the first electric vehicle from its Gujarat plant by the end of this year. “We plan not only to sell this model not only in India but also export it to Japan and some European countries,” he said.

The new production line will produce an additional 2.5 lakh units every year, he said. The annual production of Suzuki Motor Gujarat will increase from 7.5 lakh currently to 10 lakh units.

Further, with the construction of a second car plant in the state, the company will likely produce another 10 lakh units per year. With this, Suzuki Motors’ annual production capacity in Gujarat would be around 20 lakh units.

India’s thriving auto market is key for Suzuki where its arm Maruti Suzuki is the top carmaker by sales. Approximately 58 per cent of Maruti Suzuki India is owned by Suzuki Motors. The company plans to increase its production capacity to 20 lakh units by 2030–2031 and offer 28 distinct models.

With its two manufacturing facilities in Gujarat and Haryana, the automaker can currently produce over 22 lakh vehicles annually overall.Together, the Gurgugram and Manesar plants in Haryana produce over 15.5 lakh units annually. The company’s subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat, has also established a plant in Gujarat with an installed production capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually.The new plant’s first phase with a manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum is expected to be commissioned by next year.
