A team of Delhi Police conducted a search operation on Sunday at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s residence, seizing a digital video recorder (DVR) as part of their efforts to unravel the events surrounding the incident that occurred on May 13. The alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal reportedly involved CM Kejriwal’s former personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that electronic devices, including the DVR, were confiscated in an attempt to retrieve footage that could shed light on the incident.
On Saturday, Bibhav Kumar was produced before a local court late at night and remanded to five days of police custody.
However, investigators are facing hurdles in their quest for evidence, as Kumar is allegedly providing evasive responses. It’s reported that Kumar handed over his mobile phone to the police but refused to disclose the password. Moreover, the police claimed that the phone had been formatted just a day before, citing technical issues.
To retrieve crucial data from the formatted device, Delhi Police has requested permission to take Kumar to Mumbai, where experts can attempt to unlock the phone. The court was informed that Kumar’s cooperation is essential to access the information vital for the investigation.
The case against Bibhav Kumar includes serious charges such as molestation, attempted culpable homicide, wrongful restraint, assault, criminal intimidation, and insulting the modesty of a woman. The FIR was registered at the Civil Lines police station in Delhi.
