It was a short night at the office for Tawanchai at ONE Fight Night 7 in February.

All it took was one thunderous leg kick a mere 49 seconds into the opening frame to send Turkish challenger Jamal Yusupov hobbling back to his corner.

The PK Saenchai representative’s first world title defence was in stark contrast to his epic, five-round win over long-time divisional kingpin Petchmorakot Petchyindee just five months prior.

Stepping over to the kickboxing ranks for the first time in ONE, there were questions about whether Tawanchai could make the adjustments required to overcome a veteran of the sport in the form of Davit Kiria.

Those questions were answered in emphatic fashion, as the 24-year-old battered his foe with a relentless onslaught of kicks that Kiria could only manage to block with his arms.

The strategy proved to be his undoing as the decorated Georgian’s right arm appeared compromised at the end of round two.

Tawanchai only needed seconds to land the finishing blow in the final round, as the Thai slammed another left kick into the stricken limb, forcing Kiria to surrender.

Tawanchai’s promotional debut still stands as one of his most ruthless performances.

Facing former WBC Muay Thai world champion Sean Clancy, the ONE newcomer dominated right from the opening bell.

The difference in speed and power was evident throughout, as Tawanchai stalked Clancy all around the Circle and battered him with the kicks that would go on to set the featherweight Muay Thai division alight.

The then-22-year-old put an end to the Irishman’s resistance just 35 seconds into the third round with a head kick that almost sent his head spinning. The win put the division on notice and was merely a taste of the domination that was to come.

What’s Next for Tawanchai at ONE Fight Night 15?

At ONE Fight Night 15, Tawanchai will face his stiffest test yet.

Superbon is the former two-time ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion who rebounded from his dramatic title loss to Chingiz Allazov in June by knocking out then-fifth ranked contender Tayfun Ozcan with his signature head kick.

The 33-year-old has done it all in his 149-fight professional career and will relish the chance to return to the Muay Thai ranks after dominating as a kickboxer.

Tawanchai will need to avoid the Superbon head kick at close range and establish his dominance at kicking range to get his power game going if he wants to turn away the challenge of another Thai superstar.
