Teenager stabbed, man struck with machete in altercation in Sydney’s west

A teenager has been stabbed and another man attacked with a machete during an altercation which police believe was linked to a car fire in Sydney’s west.

Police say two people tried to set fire to a home on Northcott Rd, Lalor Park just after midnight on Monday.

The 43-year-old homeowner saw a Toyota Prado drive away from his house and followed it to Rawson Rd, South Wentworthville — about 9km away — where the two cars then collided.

The 43-year-old, who police say was armed with a knife, then allegedly became involved in an altercation with two teenagers who were in the Toyota.

An 18-year-old was stabbed and suffered lacerations to his hands and face, while the 43-year-old suffered cuts to his shoulder and leg after allegedly being hit with a machete.

A 17-year-old boy was not injured.

The 18-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 43-year-old and the 17-year-old were also arrested.

Police say the fight is believed to be linked to an earlier incident, when a car was set on fire in the driveway of a home in Mackenzie St, Concord West about 10.40pm on Sunday.

The Nissan X-trail was well ablaze when fire crew arrived.

The fire was extinguished but the car was partially destroyed.

Detectives are investigating both incidents and anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
