Tesla Cybertruck: Tesla Cybertruck goes off-roading in Baja: Should ICE pickup trucks be worried?

The Tesla Cybertruck made its debut back in November 2019, and in July this year, it was finally announced that the electric pickup truck has entered production at Tesla Inc’s Gigafactory Texas facility near Austin. While it is still uncertain as to when the deliveries for the EV will commence, Tesla continues to create hype for the Cybertruck, with a new video now showing the pickup truck going off-road.
The video that has released on Tesla’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle shows two Tesla Cybertrucks going for an “off-road durability test” somewhere in Baja California in Mexico. The narrator claims that the video is shot through SpaceX’s satellite internet constellation ‘Starlink’ – which could possibly be one of the reasons of the low definition of the video that was streamed live.

The video shows the Tesla Cybertrucks passing through what looks like a forest, crossing a puddle on the way, doing a relatively high speeds. The pickup trucks can be seen passing through the terrain without breaking a sweat. The go-anywhere capabilities, practicality and towing capabilities of conventional pickup trucks are what makes them popular in North America. However, Tesla Cybertruck aims to challenge the notions that an electric pickup truck is best suited for on-road usage.

The Cybertruck is being built at Tesla Inc’s Gigafactory Texas facility near Austin. The EV maker claims that the electric pickup truck is made for ‘ultimate durability’ and ‘passenger protection’, which is probably the reason for its ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless-steel structural skin as well as armor glass. The stainless-steel skin is claimed to help eliminate dents, damage and long-term corrosion.
Pre-bookings for the Tesla Cybertruck are currently open for a token amount of $100. The pickup truck will be offered in three trims, with the entry-level single-motor variant packing a RWD configuration and a range of around 402 km. The mid-range variant will be equipped with a dual-motor setup, along with an AWD system for a total range of around 483 km. The range-topping model gets three electric motors, with an all-wheel drive configuration, and an incredible claimed driving range of 805 km!
