Tesla’s India arrival advances as Piyush Goyal set to meet Elon Musk during US visit

Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal is set to visit the US from November 13-17, attending the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) ministerial meeting and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in San Francisco. Upon arrival, Goyal is slated to meet Tesla chief Elon Musk, emphasizing Tesla’s India plans and local component manufacturing, following Musk‘s interest expressed during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York City four months ago, reported ANI.
During the visit, Goyal will engage with top US officials, including US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai, to bolster bilateral ties. Further interactions with IPEF partner countries’ ministers will occur on the sidelines of the IPEF ministerial.

Goyal’s agenda encompasses discussions with multinational CEOs, the Indian diaspora, the startup community, and academia to enhance trade and investment ties. The focus is on highlighting India’s appeal as a premier investment destination and exploring industrial collaborations across priority areas.
At the APEC Summit, Goyal will have an informal interaction with President Joe Biden and join the APEC leaders’ group photo, including Canada’s PM Trudeau and China’s President Xi Jinping. In the Bay Area, Goyal will interact with business leaders.
Dr Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, mentioned the forum’s role in bringing US technology companies to India and fostering collaboration during Goyal’s visit, emphasizing a two-way transfer of technology.
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), launched jointly by the US and partner countries in May 2022, aims to strengthen economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. The meeting will focus on enhancing resilience, sustainability, inclusiveness, economic growth, fairness, and competitiveness in the region.
