Tonight the 2024 Critics Choice Awards are underway at the Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar. Hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler for the second consecutive year, the annual awards ceremony honors some of the year’s best performances in film and television (and continues a busy awards season, following the Golden Globes just last weekend). On the red carpet this evening, the gowns and suits were less extravagant considering it’s a smaller event, but that didn’t mean the fashion moments were any less striking. In fact, the best dressed stars of the night leaned into a sense of fun and whimsy.
Take Barbie co-stars Margot Robbie and Dua Lipa, for instance. Both stars embraced gowns that references red blossoms; call them Rose Barbies. Robbie chose a custom off-the-shoulder Balmain design, while Lipa went for a custom strapless column dress from Prada. The hue was even a hit amongst the men of the night: Charles Melton slipped into a deep red Valentino double-breasted tux, while Jeremy Allen White accessorized his sleek Saint Laurent suit with a red floral brooch.
Elsewhere, more unexpected colors had a moment in the spotlight. Rosamund Pike chose an aqua sequined Rodarte frock, and Julianne Moore opted for a strapless Chanel Couture number in purple. There was plenty of black this evening, too, however. Emma Stone turned heads in her scalloped one-shouldered Louis Vuitton gown, and Greta Lee shined—literally—in her crystal-covered Loewe top and trousers. Consider them both proof that black doesn’t have to mean boring.
