Tonight, the 2024 Oscars concludes an eventful awards season—and as usual, the red carpet was a true fashion spectacle that served as the grand finale. Hollywood’s top stars all came out for the affair, including the night’s leading nominees Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone, Cillian Murphy, Sterling K. Brown, and more. The best dressed stars of the evening were those who embodied classic evening glamour—but in ways that felt fresh, modern, and at times, entirely unexpected.
Take Maestro star Carrey Mulligan, whose voluminous full-skirted Balenciaga gown took cues from an archival Cristóbal Balenciaga silhouette. Or Emma Stone, whose seafoam Louis Vuitton number featured a dramatic peplum. Strong shapes definitely dominated the evening, rejecting the idea that a winning style moment has to be streamlined or timeless. Fun, was the word of the night.
There were also poignant fashion moments in the mix, too. Lily Gladstone—nominated for her powerful performance in Killers of the Flower Moon—brought forward Indigenous representation by wearing a custom Gucci design that was made in collaboration with Mohawk, Cree, and Comanche artist Joe Big Mountain, who is renowned for his quillwork jewelry. Her blue velvet caped gown featured floral quillwork embellishments all along the back.
As for the best dressed men of the night? Leading stars such as Colman Domingo, Cillian Murphy, and Sterling K. Brown found interesting ways to update the classic tuxedo—whether by adding brooches, a glitzy shoe, or in Murphy’s case, a chic little bowed necktie. Traditional ties? So 2023 Oscars.
