This evening, the 30th annual SAG Awards kicked off at the Shine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles. This year’s ceremony honors the best film and television performances of 2023, as chosen by members of the Screen Actors Guild. Top awards season contenders showed up for the affair, including A-listers Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, and Cillian Murphy. The best dressed stars of the night were those who embraced a sense of risk-taking and playfulness on the red carpet—the SAGs, after all, heap far less fashion pressure on attendees than the Golden Globes or the upcoming Oscars.
Some of the evening’s most standout looks were those with unexpected silhouettes. Maddie Ziegler chose a vintage Alexander McQueen gown that was beautifully shredded. (Archival fashion has been a trend this awards season.) Penelope Cruz wore an off-the-shoulder Chanel design with a full tulle skirt; Lily Gladstone chose a custom Armani halter gown in bright red fringe. The latter Italian label was the most-worn brand of the night: Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Debicki also wore Armani, slipping into a champagne column gown and a blue lace slip, respectively.
As for some of the most stylish men of the night, Colman Domingo—who has rarely disappointed on the red carpet—chose a pink Off-White tuxedo with geometric striping. The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White went more reserved, but still shined in his cream Saint Laurent suit, complete with subtle heeled oxfords. Actor Theo Iyer also made a statement in a Kwasi Paul design with cowrie shell piping. Suffice to say, the days of boring tuxes in Hollywood are over.
