It may currently be the middle of winter, but in the world of Hollywood fashion, A-list celebrities are dialing up the heat with their fashion choices on the red carpet. The best dressed stars of the week—whether at Sundance for the film festival, or Europe for the fall 2024 menswear shows—put clever twists on cold-weather dressing, choosing gowns with clever coverage, or fabulous coats to top it all off. The bunch of them proved that bundling up and keeping warm doesn’t have to mean sacrificing one’s personal style—with the right pieces, it can even enhance it.
Take Taylor Russell, who attended Loewe’s fall 2024 menswear show in Paris. The Bones and All star cozied in one of the label’s luxurious wool coats and accessorized with a long fur scarf. In Park City, Utah, Kristen Stewart opted for a two-piece Chanel set, which consisted of a printed jacket and trousers covered in graphic double-Cs. Even in West Hollywood, which is hardly as frigid, Rihanna proved the value of good outwear: The star emerged for dinner wearing a long, shawl-collar Dolce & Gabbana coat, and paired it with a classic Givenchy LBD and heels.
But it wasn’t just the week’s fashion-forward outerwear moments that stood out. On the step and repeats, stars also leaned into glamorous gowns that were all about covering up—and taking up space. At the Emmys, for one, White Lotus star Simona Tabasco chose a colorful Marni floral frock that featured a voluminous A-line skirt; Lizzy Caplan also embraced the widened silhouette, though her black strapless design—a vintage Yohji Yamamoto design—gets extra points for being from the year 1999. It’s proof that a well-cut dress will never go out of style.
