The Voice judges have been left stunned by a major rule change that has been dramatically introduced in the show’s latest season.

Jason Derulo, Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora and Jess Mauboy were left speechless when the sensational new “blocking” rule was first used during Sunday night’s blind auditions episode of the hit Channel Seven show.

The new rule makes it possible for judges to block one another – before they’ve even had a chance to turn their chair around.

Guy created shockwaves during Robbie Hunt’s blind audition when he blocked Jason without him even knowing.

When the US star repeatedly hit his button to turn around, he was left confused when it didn’t move – prompting him to assume that his “chair was broken”.

It was only when the 18-year-old finished his performance that he realised that he’d been blocked, and that he had been the first judge to experience the new rule in 2023.

At first, Jason accused Jess – who cried after Robbie’s performance – of taking him out.

“Did you cry before you blocked me or after you blocked me?” he asked.

When Jess denied it, Jason cried out: “Who blocked me!”

Rita said she was unsure what was happening when she first saw Jason struggle to turn around.

“I was like, ‘Is his chair just broken?’” she said. “And then I was like ‘Oh! It’s not!’

“But I don’t think you noticed you were blocked! That’s what was killing me – you were pressing the button like it was broken!”

Jason agreed, saying he was waving to producers for assistance during the audition: “I was like ‘Excuse me!’ Somebody!”

It was then that Guy owned up to blocking Jason in the stealth manoeuvre.

“No that wasn’t an accident, Rita,” Guy said.

“I know this year that if we block before you turn your chair, you can’t turn your chair. So I was living for that moment where Jason was like [hitting his button].”

Rita responded: “That’s crazy. I watched it all unravel.”

Later, Jason said he was left blind-sided by the move.

“I got blocked before I even had a chance to turn,” he said. “That was brutal, that was cut throat on here. Everyone has brought their A-game, everybody is after the gold.

“So I’m gonna sink my teeth in deeper.’
