These FASTags will be deactivated on January 31, here’s why

If you own a car and have a FASTag — and with adequate balance — then you should check if you have completed your KYC or not. If you haven’t then NHAI has revealed that banks will deactivate FASTags that have incomplete KYC (Know Your Customer) on January 31. NHAI has said that users need to complete KYC for FASTags, as per mandated by RBI guidelines.State-owned NHAI on Monday said FASTags with valid balance but with incomplete KYC will get deactivated by banks post January 31, 2024. To prevent any inconvenience, NHAI emphasised that users must ensure the completion of KYC for their vehicle’s FASTag.
According to a report by news agency PTI, NHAI also wants to enhance efficiency of electronic toll collection system and provide seamless movement at toll plazas through the One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. The initiative is designed to discourage the misuse of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the linking of multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle, according to NHAI
“Only the latest FASTag account shall remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after 31st January 2024,” NHAI said in a statement. Additionally, FASTag users are urged to adhere to the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ principle and responsibly discard any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.
NHAI has said that FASTag users can reach out to nearest toll plazas or contact toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks. NHAI further said that the initiative has been undertaken after
after recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle.
Apart from this, NHAI also noted that FASTags are sometimes deliberately not fixed on the windscreen of the vehicle, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and causing inconvenience to fellow national highway users.
