Three people arrested in connection with SF Embarcadero shooting

After issuing an arrest warrant, SFPD apprehended the three occupants of one of the cars who were already suspected of being an “auto burglary crew.” One of the suspects is a minor. Before being identified as a suspect in the June shooting, one occupant was already in custody at the Santa Rita jail on unrelated charges. 

SFPD also served search warrants in four Bay Area counties where they found multiple weapons, including 13 handguns, four-assault style rifles and a “large amount” of ammunition. 

The arrests stemmed from a wild car chase involving gunfire earlier this year. On June 18 just after 7 p.m., SFPD received reports of people shooting at one another from their vehicles as they were driving east on Beach Street, the department explained in a Thursday news release. 

As the occupants of the two cars continued to shoot at one another, three other cars that were not involved in the shooting spree were struck by crossfire near Beach and Stockton streets. A 48-year-old man was injured by broken glass and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result, SFPD said.

The two cars containing the suspects then drove south on the Embarcadero, where each car struck a minor who had been crossing the street. One of the pedestrians was 16 years old, while the other was 10. Neither sustained life-threatening injuries.

As the suspects’ vehicles continued on the Embarcadero, one of the vehicles crashed, while the other vehicle fled, police said. The two people in the crashed car were a 28-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, police said. Both people were shot during the chase and transported to a local hospital, police said. The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries and the man for life-threatening injuries, police said. 

Police said the man was initially arrested but he was later released after law enforcement continued to investigate the shooting.
