The surge in tomato prices is attributed to heavy rainfall causing crop losses in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, resulting in a shortage of tomato supply. The impact of the soaring prices is not limited to Tamil Nadu, as cities like Delhi-NCR have also witnessed an increase in tomato prices. Fast-food restaurant franchise Subway has temporarily suspended the use of tomatoes in their menu due to the difficulty in sourcing sufficient tomatoes that meet their quality standards.
