Top-selling car manufacturers in India in March ’24 : Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai lead the charge

Continuing the momentum for the growth of PVs in India, domestic car sales in March 2024 marked a robust end to fiscal 2024 for major automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra, as revealed by monthly data released. The total industry figures saw a remarkable growth of 42.51 percent. Notably, SUV sales soared with 21,46,409 units sold, marking a growth of 27.2 percent.Sedans followed suit with 3,80,135 units sold, showing a slight decline of 5.9 percent. However, compact car sales saw a decline, with 1,173,285 units sold, marking a decrease of 12.4 percent.
March 2024: Top-selling manufacturers in domestic market
Maruti Suzuki reported a significant uptick in domestic passenger vehicle sales for March 2024, with a growth of 15 percent. The company sold 1,52,718 units compared to 1,32,763 units in the same period last year.
Tata Motors also witnessed a surge in passenger vehicle sales, including electric vehicles, in the domestic market. Sales stood at 50,297 units in March, up by 14 percent from 44,225 units in the corresponding period last year.
Hyundai India celebrated its highest-ever annual sales during the fiscal year 2023-24, reaching 777,876 units. In March 2024 alone, Hyundai sold 65,601 units, reflecting a 7 percent growth compared to the same month last year.

Mahindra reported a rise in monthly sales, with 40,631 passenger vehicles sold in the domestic market, marking a 13 percent increase over March 2023.
Honda Cars India reported monthly domestic sales of 7,071 units in March 2024, along with export numbers of 6,860 units. In comparison, the company sold 6,692 units domestically and exported 3,189 units in March 2023.
On the other hand, MG Motor India experienced a year-on-year decline in sales for March 2024, with 4,648 units sold compared to 6,051 units in March 2023, marking a decrease of over 23 percent.
Toyota sold 25,119 vehicles in India and exported 2,061 units. Compared to the same period last year, this represents a substantial year-on-year increase of 25 percent, up from sales of 21,783 units.
