Toyota Fortuner Leader edition launched in India: What’s different

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the Fortuner Leader Edition. The new edition is based on Fortuner 4×2 variants and features minor cosmetic changes and gets additional features. Interested customers can book the SUV online or by visiting their nearest dealership, deliveries are expected to begin soon.
The company has not revealed the price but said that the Fortuner Leader Edition prices will be rolled out at the dealership according to the “accessories fitted for the specific requirement”.We expect the prices for the Leader Edition to carry a premium of up to Rs 80,000.

In terms of design, the Fortuner Leader Edition features blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels, and the company is offering three dual-tone colour options – Super white, Platinum Pearl white and Silver Metallic and all colour options get contrasting black elements. The SUV also gets unique front and rear bumper spoilers which is part of its official list of accessories and will be installed by the dealership. Inside, the SUV additionally gets a dual-tone interior, wireless charger and TPMS.

Mechanically, the Leader edition remains the same. The SUV will be powered by a 2.8-litre, 4-cyl, turbo diesel engine that puts out 201 hp of power and 420 Nm of torque in manual transmission and 500 Nm torque in automatic variants. It can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic in 4×2 guise.

Recently, Toyota globally revealed the Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid. The Fortuner mild hybrid is powered by the same tried and tested 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. This is now paired with a 48V mild hybrid system which provides an additional 16hp and 42Nm for a total output of 201hp and 500Nm of torque. The company claims that the mild hybrid model is 5 per cent more fuel-efficient than the standard model.

Toyota also claims that the new mild hybrid model has better throttle response and it also gets idle start-stop feature with smoother engine restart. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed torque converter gearbox as standard and has both, 4×2 and 4×4 variants on offer. In terms of features, the Fortuner MHEV additionally gets the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist and forward collision warning. It also gets a 360-degree camera, along with some minor changes done to the interior.
