Toyota Kluger models recalled over potential fault affecting function of airbags

Hundreds of Toyota vehicles have been recalled over a defect with the cars’ airbags that could lead to an increased “risk of injury or death”.

The defect impacts 625 Kluger Petrol (TXUA70 and TXUA75) and Kluger Hybrid (AXUH78) models made in 2023 and includes the following variants: Kluger 2.4L Petrol 2WD, Kluger 2.4L Petrol AWD and Kluger Hybrid 2.5L.

According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, the wiring in the driver’s side airbag may become loose over time.

If this happens, the airbag warning light will light up during an emergency, however the airbag will not deploy.

“In the event of an accident, an airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants,” the department said.

When parts become available, Toyota will contact affected customers in writing to schedule an appointment.

If any work needs to be carried out, it will be done free of charge.

Customers who want more information should contact the Toyota Recall Assist helpline on 1800 987 366 or email recallsupport@toyota.dataresponse.com.au.
