Tragic Death of Colombian International Student as Powerful Waves Sweep Them Off Rocks in Sydney’s Cronulla Beach

An international student from Colombia tragically passed away after being swept off the rocks at a Sydney beach. Katherine Sandoval, 30, was visiting Cronulla Beach on July 30 when she was swept into the water. Despite her friends’ attempts to reach her, they were unable to save her. Sandoval was pulled aboard a boat and taken to the Botany boat ramp, where paramedics tried to treat her, but unfortunately, she died at the scene. Sandoval was known for her kindness and generosity, especially in her work as a social worker in Bogota and her volunteer work at a food bank in Sydney. She had only been in Australia for five months to study English. Sandoval’s parents, who also lost their son in a motorcycle accident just three months prior, are relying on their community for support and have set up a GoFundMe page to repatriate their daughter’s body to Colombia. The community is deeply saddened by Sandoval’s death and remembers her as an inspirational member of their Spanish church, Iglesia Su Presencia. A service will be held in her honor at her church in Sydney.
