Trixie Mattel, a renowned drag icon, cancels her performance at San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival

Trixie Mattel, one of the most highly anticipated acts on the Panhandle stage at Outside Lands in San Francisco this year, has cancelled her Saturday, August 12 performance as well as a DJ set that was scheduled to take place at Bimbo’s 365 Club later that evening.

The drag icon and musician, celebrated for her Barbie-influenced persona and country-pop twang, announced the news in her Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon.

“Very sad to say that I am unable to make it to @outsidelands this weekend,” wrote Mattel, who is also known as Brian Michael Firkus. “Y’all know I love a live gig and sharing my music with you, but unfortunately due to an unforeseen circumstance, I am going to have to sit this one out.”

An agent for Mattel was not immediately available to provide more details on the cancellation.

Mattel rose to fame when she competed on the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2015 and went on to win the third season of the show’s “All-Stars” spinoff three years later. She’s one-half of the web comedy series “UNHhhh” alongside close friend and beloved drag performer Katya, with whom she also released the New York Times bestselling book “Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Modern Womanhood.” She was the subject of the documentary “Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts,” had a guest appearance on the sixth season of “American Horror Story,” and co-hosts with Katya on the popular podcast “The Bald and the Beautiful.”

Another drag icon will be filling in for Mattel during the 7:50 p.m. time slot – Bob the Drag Queen, a comedian, musician and “Drag Race” peer who won season eight of the reality show; Bob the Drag Queen is slated to join Madonna on her postponed “Celebration” tour later this year.
