Donald Trump is alleging that the Department of Justice fabricated charges against him in order to undermine his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump, speaking about himself in the third person, portrayed himself as a victim.
“Look, it’s not my fault that my political opponent in the Democrat Party, Crooked Joe Biden, has instructed his Attorney General to bring numerous fabricated charges against the leading (by far!) Republican Nominee & former President of the United States, me, so that he is forced to spend significant amounts of time & money defending himself,” he wrote.
“The Dems don’t want to compete against me or they wouldn’t engage in this unprecedented weaponization of ‘Justice,’” he continued. “BUT SOON, IN 2024, IT WILL BE OUR TURN. MAGA!”
Trump’s concerns about money are not baseless. His Save America political action committee has paid out over $40 million for legal fees in 2023 alone, as indicated in a recent filing.
Special counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday announced the Department of Justice’s second indictment against Trump — the third batch of criminal charges brought against the former president this year. The latest indictment accuses Trump of conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election and disseminating persistent falsehoods that contributed to the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
