Volvo discontinues XC40 in India, will continue to sell all-electric version

Swedish carmaker Volvo has silently pulled the plug on the petrol version of the XC40 SUV in India. The model received a facelift in September 2022. The OEM, however, will continue to sell the all-electric avatar, the XC40 Recharge, in the country.
The XC40 drew its power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
The decision to discontinue the XC40 petrol is likely due to Volvo’s aim to become a fully electric brand by 2030.In fact,Volvo Cars India has been vocal about aiming to achieve this feat before the parent company’s global target of full electrification by 2030.
On the other hand, the XC40 Recharge was launched in India in 2022 and is the company’s most affordable electric vehicle in India, priced at Rs 56.90 lakh, ex-showroom. It is powered by a dual-motor electric powertrain that produces 408 hp and 660 Nm of torque.
