Waiting period for Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Hilux to get longer: Here’s why |

Following the discovery of irregularities in the output tests of three diesel engines, Toyota has taken the decision to temporarily suspend all dispatches of the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux models in India.
Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), an affiliate of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), revealed the discovery of irregularities in horsepower output certification tests on these diesel engine models. In the Indian market, the said models employ the same engine and hence the decision.
The irregularities primarily revolve around the ‘smoothing’ of power and torque curves during certification tests. However, it is worth noting that these irregularities did not result in any over-stating or over-claims regarding horsepower, torque, or other powertrain-related figures. Furthermore, there is no impact on the emissions or safety standards of the affected vehicles.
Toyota is actively collaborating with relevant authorities to re-evaluate the data utilized for certifying the impacted vehicles. Consequently, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd (TKM) has decided to temporarily suspend the dispatch of affected vehicles.

“However, new order taking will continue. For cars that have already been dispatched but have not yet been delivered to the customer, we will carefully explain to our customers about this condition. Thereafter, we will proceed with registration and delivery for customers who opt to receive their vehicles.” the manufacturer said in a statement.
Furthermore, Toyota also reassured the existing owners of these vehicles that these irregularities have not affected their vehicles. The horsepower, torque, and other powertrain-related values remain unchanged, and there is no compromise in emissions or safety standards.
“Nevertheless, TKM sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and concern this irregularity may cause to our customers and other stakeholders.” the company noted in its statement.
