Aussies travelling to Bali have been warned to watch out for a new scam that seems to be gaining popularity on the Indonesian tourist island.
A woman alerted fellow travellers to the suspected scam via the popular Facebook page Bali Bogans.
She said she was at a Burger King in Kuta when she saw three people who looked “dodgy as” approach a father and a son.

“I walked past to listen to the conversation. Yup, it was about currency,” the woman wrote on the page.
The woman claimed the trio asked the father and son what their country’s currency looked like, which the Facebook poster suspected was related to a new scam doing the rounds.
Some Bali tourists have reported being approached by a local, who will strike up a conversation with them before asking them where they were from and what their currency looked like.
They will then ask to see the foreign currency— and grab the victim’s wallet or purse when they pull it out to show them.
The woman who made the Facebook post took out her phone and captured a photo of the trio in the act.
“The lady was looking at me when I pulled out … (the) phone, took a nice clear photo and then they bolted out pretty quickly.”
The post went viral, amassing almost 2000 likes and hundreds of comments.
“If they wanna see the currency, tell them to google it,” one person wrote.
Earlier this year another Aussie tourist posted about a similar experience on the Bali Bogans page.
“Just had my little encounter with the family that goes around asking Aussies if he (sic) could look at your money,” a woman wrote.
“He said: ‘Do you have an Australian dollar coin I could look at?’.
“I said: ‘We aren’t showing you our money, mate, we have heard about your scam.’
“They took off like a bat out of hell.”
