International supermodel Bella Hadid recently gave an update on her health condition, Lyme disease. After ten years of battling with this chronic illness, Hadid stated that she is finally feeling much better. So, what exactly is Lyme disease, the bacterial infection that Hadid suffers from, and how has she been fighting this condition?
Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection that Hadid was diagnosed with in 2012. Since then, she has frequently shared photos and updates about her treatment on Instagram. In a recent post, she expressed her gratitude to her mother for keeping her medical records and staying by her side throughout her journey. Hadid’s story of battling with Lyme disease started with a tooth infection and soon progressed to extreme fatigue, joint pain, difficulty walking, and other symptoms. She had to take time off work to focus on her health. However, she reassured her followers that she is now feeling well and will return to work when she is ready.
Lyme disease is caused by borrelia bacteria, typically transmitted through tick bites. It is prevalent in the United States, Europe, and Southeastern Canada. The symptoms of Lyme disease develop over time and can include rash, fever, headache, extreme fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and swollen lymph nodes. To prevent tick bites, it is recommended to wear full-length clothing when in wooded or grassy areas where ticks are found.
Currently, there is no definite cure for Lyme disease, but ongoing research is working towards finding better treatment options. The standard treatment involves a course of antibiotics. However, in cases of chronic Lyme disease or severe progression of the disease, the medical approach may differ. Efforts are also being made to understand the long-term effects of Lyme disease and its treatments.
