In a candid interview, Aishwarya admitted to her astonishment at being replaced in the film, which eventually saw Rani Mukerji stepping into her shoes.Mukerji, who not only replaced her, but also served as a producer for the project, became the face of the film alongside SRK.

In an old video that has resurfaced on social media, Shah Rukh expressed regret over the decision to replace his co-star. In the viral clip, Khan openly acknowledged his disappointment for not standing up for Rai Bachchan despite their close friendship.

Apologizing to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan shared, “I personally was very saddened to reach something at this level and I feel very sorry about it and I genuinely do. As a producer my hand was very tight because I am not the only producer, we felt the whole affair was very sad, it was not meant to be. It was not a superstitious but a professional decision and even professionally we feel very bad, there are no two ways about it.”
