Which manager’s next to get the boot?

Premier League club owners showed great restraint in the first half of the 2023/24 season, but as the business end starts to loom into view, the Premier League sack race might go into overdrive.

Ex-Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson stepped down recently after being “taken ill” during training and took the decision so Palace could bring forward their plans to appoint his successor. They have since hired former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner.

Hodgson has had an incredible managerial career that has spanned 48 years and has seen him manage Fulham, Liverpool and England to name a few. He deserves a rest! But who’s next to face the axe?

Next English Premier League Manager to Leave odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise, our summary of the leading contenders for the chop is below.

Vincent Kompany

The gap between the Premier League and the Championship has never been bigger and there’s a case to be made that last season’s second tier was probably the weakest in recent memory as all three promoted sides are struggling.

Burnley romped to the title but Vincent Kompany‘s determination to play out from the back is costing them goals at the wrong end of the pitch.

He has transformed the Clarets since joining, but ultimately it’s a results business and a new manager bounce could get them to safety.

No Manager To Leave

As we near the end of the season it could be a case of every manager staying in their post. Making a change this late on is a big risk to take and the grass isn’t always greener.

David Moyes

West Ham have been pretty wretched since the turn of the year and the 6-0 hammering at home to Arsenal – which prompted plenty of fans to stream out of the ground before half-time – compounded David Moyes‘ woes.

The Scot has done a grand job for the Hammers but they are winless in six and out of the FA Cup, while his contract expires at the end of the season. Is it time for someone new to take his place?

Chris Wilder

Sheffield United reappointed Chris Wilder on an 18-month contract in December in the hope he could repeat his success during his first spell in charge.

However, little has changed and the Blades are still struggling to pick up points that they desperately need to survive. We have seen it happen before, but surely they won’t make another change so soon.

Mauricio Pochettino

The former Tottenham boss is struggling to work his magic at Chelsea and the Blues are a long way off the pace in the race for the Champions League.

A couple of years of upheaval at Stamford Bridge has been the contributing factor to the club’s slide down the table, although Todd Boehly and co will have been expecting more from Mauricio Pochettino.

Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe overperformed at Newcastle last season, with the Toon ending up securing Champions League football.

Newcastle have struggled to hit those heights this season and injuries have hampered their squad. Despite Howe’s brilliant campaign last time out, would Newcastle axe him if results keep going against them?
