While batting, I don’t think too much about captaincy: Shubman Gill | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: An all-round show from the bowlers led by Sai Kihore four-for was followed by useful knocks from Shubman Gill (35), Sai Sudharsan (31) and Rahul Tewatia (36*) as Gujarat Titans returned to winning ways, securing a three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Sunday.
After restricting to Punjab for a par 142, Titans did have a few hiccups in the chase but eventually secured two crucial points and moved up to sixth spot on the points table, wrapping up the chase in the final over.
Skipper Gill led from the front as he had a good day both as a leader as well as with the bat.
The 24-year-old was involved in a couple of crucial review that turned in Titans’ favour and then gave his side a decent start in the chase.
After the win, Gill said that quicker win would have made him happier and admitted gets two points was the focus.
Gill also said that he’s enjoying his new role of being a leader but keeps that out of his mind while batting.
“Would have liked to finish it a bit early, but good to get those two points,” Gill said in the post-match presentation.
“It’s been very exciting for me to be able to take up this role. Except for the over-rate, everything has been good. When I am out there batting, I just want to play as a batter, I don’t want to think too much about the captaincy,” Gill added.
With victory over Punjab on Sunday, the last year’s finalists now have four wins and equal number of defeats in 8 matches.
