Wyatt Banks, a student at the University of Georgia (UGA) allegedly committed suicide Wednesday night. A GoFundMe page was set up in the memory of the freshman by the Kappa Sigma Beta Lambda Chapter.

“Last night a UGA STUDENT took his life in his dorm. This is every parents WORST NIGHTMARE. Wyatt was a member of the fraternity James belongs to. KAPPA SIGMA is raising funds for his family,” wrote Julie Kenyon Kiernan on Meta-owned Facebook while sharing the news.

Notably, the goal of the GoFundMe campaign by the Kappa Sigma Beta Lambda Chapter, the organization that described Wyatt as its “brother,” is to raise awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention.

Who Was Wyatt Banks?

Wyatt Banks passed away on Wednesday night in a suspected suicide. During his short time at the varsity, as per the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Wyatt spread positivity and laughter, “with an infectious smile and a laugh that anyone in the room could recognize.”

Apart from being someone who excelled in academics, Wyatt’s last employment was as a Merchandiser with Eagle Rock Distributing Company in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area last year.

He was a member of Morehead Honors College and was considered someone open to helping others in school. “If you were looking to go out and have a good time, you knew who to ask. For anything you needed, Wyatt was that guy,” the GoFundMe campaign dedicated to him read.

Wyatt joined the UGA’s Terry College of Business in 2023. Apart from speaking English fluently, he also knew Spanish. “Hiding many of his deepest emotions from his friends, family, and brothers, Wyatt was alone in his struggles and sadly resorted to the most desperate solution,” Kappa Sigma Fraternity said further.
