Wounded man found after shooting at Sydney CBD building

A man was shot in the groin in Sydney’s CBD on Wednesday afternoon, NSW Police said.

The wounded victim and alleged offender, both males in their 70s, were found inside a building on Castlereagh St after reports of the shooting were made about 12.50pm.

The initial call to police stated that multiple people had been shot, but when police and paramedics arrived at the scene three minutes later, they found only one man with a gunshot wound, and confirmed only one bullet had been fired.

The 77-year-old victim was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and first responders, and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

A 79-year-old man was arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.

“At the scene, we found one male offender who was being held down by staff members in the premises,” NSW Police spokesperson David El-Badawi told reporters outside the building on Wednesday.

“The people inside the office were very brave, they restrained the offender until police arrived.

“This is an isolated shooting, we don’t believe it’s connected to any outlaw motorcycle gangs or gang warfare or anything like that,” El-Badawi said.

El-Badawi confirmed the weapon allegedly used was a semi-automatic pistol, which has now been secured.

The relationship between the two men is not yet known.
