Wrangling in UP: Allocated 7 LS seats, RLD asks SP for 2 more | India News

LUCKNOW: Amidst intense political churning unfolding in Bihar, negotiations regarding seat distribution within INDIA bloc in UP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections appear to be far from reaching a resolution, reports . Sources in Jayant Chaudhary-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) said the party has sought an increase in its share from the recently allocated seven seats by alliance partner Samajwadi Party (SP).
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had announced 11 seats for Congress, prompting the latter to affirm that talks were still in progress. It has now emerged that RLD has demanded at least two more seats, while agreeing to allow SP candidates to contest on them. Experts said RLD’s reported willingness to accommodate SP candidates on its ticket evokes memories of the 2018 Kairana bypolls, where SP’s Tabassum Begum contested on an RLD ticket and emerged victorious against BJP’s Mriganka Singh. Other parties like BSP and Congress abstained from contesting, preventing vote division.
This is in addition to seven seats finalised by Jayant and Akhilesh, although the specific constituencies have not been disclosed. Sources said RLD has already initiated groundwork in Baghpat, Muzzaffarnagar, Mathura, Kairana, Hathras, Bijnor, and Amroha.
