‘Yellowjackets’ Star Liv Hewson Shines in Genderless Suiting at the 2024 Emmys

Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson traded their goalkeeper’s jersey for a suit at the 2024 Emmys.

The actor, who plays Van Palmer on the beloved show, wore a tuxedo tailcoat typically worn with white tie and tuxedo shirt. Instead they wore the cropped-front jacket with nothing underneath, showing off the edges of their top surgery scar and a pearl and oyster tattoo on their sternum. Hewson discussed their gender-affirming surgery with Teen Vogue in June, saying, “I stand differently, I walk differently, I carry myself differently. It feels different in my body than it ever has. I have just never been happier.” That sense of self-assuredness was apparent—and celebrated—on the red carpet.

The actor also donned a pair of floor-grazing, wide-legged tuxedo trousers. To complement their suiting, Hewson added a pair of black heeled boots and jewelry from State Property and Samsares.

Hewson made headlines earlier this year when they declined to submit to the Emmys, given the gendered categories. “There’s not a place for me in the acting categories,” they told Variety. “It would be inaccurate for me to submit myself as an actress. It neither makes sense for me to be lumped in with the boys. It’s quite straightforward and not that loaded. I can’t submit myself for this because there’s no space for me.” They subtly underscored that statement on the red carpet with a small silver “They/Them” embellishment on their sleeve.
