You Can Buy A Thunderbird, A Governor’s Limo, And A Train All From The Same Family’s Collection

Car auctions are always fun, but there’s something special about a car collector auction — where every vehicle up for sale was purchased, prized, and preserved by a single owner. An auction in Alabama, though, promises to outdo all others: A warehouse auction from a car collector, auto builder, and railroad worker.

The auction comes from the collection of Royce Kershaw Sr. and Jr. in Montgomery, Alabama. Kershaw passed last year, leaving behind a massive warehouse full of classic cars, one-off custom builds, and a full locomotive. Not exactly standard Sotheby’s fare.

WSFA 12 toured through the warehouse, and spotted some truly interesting pieces in the collection. There’s a Cadillac Fleetwood limousine used by a series of Alabama governors, an homemade RV built from riveted aircraft aluminum, and a 111-year-old steam locomotive.

Of course, not everything in the auction is quite so old. The online listings show a smattering of newer models, from an F-150 and a Honda Element to a Harley-Davidson Road King and a Can-Am side-by-side. The older stuff, though, piques the interest more — would you rather have a BMW X3 or your choice of three different classic Lincoln Continentals? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Bids all start at just one dollar, but don’t expect many of the offerings to stay so low. The auction’s Pantera has already been bid to $61,000 as of this writing, and prices will only climb over the coming eight days before the auction closes. If you’re in desperate need of a good deal on a miniature train, it seems like you’ll have to act fast before the opportunity passes you by.
