You Can Buy The Saleen Mustang That Got Crushed By Semi Trucks In 2 Fast 2 Furious

Everyone with taste knows that 2 Fast 2 Furious is a great movie. Amongst the silly plot surrounding Paul Walker’s Brian going undercover to bust a drug lord, 2F2F has the introduction of Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson’s fan-favorite characters, iconic cars like Brian’s silver R34 GT-R, the flashy landscape and fashions of Miami, a lot of ridiculous automotive CGI, and the best character that the F&F franchise has ever seen: Devon Aoki as the pink S2000-owning Suki.

One of the best car scenes in the movie involves Brian and other drivers auditioning for the drug lord by racing across the city. The heroes drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 and an Eclipse Spyder, while the villains are in a stock C5 Chevy Corvette, a Yenko Camaro, a 1970 Dodge Challenger and a Saleen-modified Mustang. At one point the Mustang gets crushed between two semi trucks, and now that very ‘Stang is being auctioned by Mecum in Kissimmiee, Florida in January.

It turns out the car isn’t a legit full Saleen build, but a 2002 Ford Mustang GT that was fitted with the bodykit, brakes, center exhaust, gauges, seats and suspension from the Saleen S281. It’s painted Liz-Stick Red — yes, that’s the actual color name – and it has an unmodified 4.6-liter V8 engine and an automatic transmission. A number of “2F2F” stickers have been added, including in the engine bay.

The odometer lists just 582 miles, and the car looks pristine and brand-new in general. That’s impressive given that this car really was crushed by the semis during filming. Mecum says the Mustang was rebuilt by Mason’s Hotrods and Hobbies in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It’s one of five Mustangs that were used in filming of the movie, and number 88 out of 120 total cars used by the production.

Mecum’s estimate for the Mustang is $60,000 to $90,000, quite a bit more than these typically go for. I’ve never been a fan of the New Edge Mustang, but I will admit they look pretty rad when done up in Saleen gear — that interior is just a nightmare, though. The Kissimmee auction will run from January 2 to the 14th.
